Q- Will it work with XYZ lens/ camera?
A- Yes! The REV focus motor will work on any mechanically focused lens with a gear. It is perfect for SLR lenses, Broadcast lenses and Cine lenses.
Q- Will there be different pitch gears available?
A- Yes- a full range of gears in 0.8Mod, 0.6Mod and 0.5Mod etc will be available soon.
Q- Will there be support for focus limits?
A- There are several modes to aid with limits and focus, including mapping the whole range of the knob between two defined lens focus points.
Q- Does it mount to 15mm Rods, 19mm or both?
A- Each unit ships with a 15mm clamp. This can be changed for a 19mm clamp for a small extra fee, Additional brackets are available separately in the shop.
Q- Can I control Focus, Iris and Zoom?
A- The controller can simultaneously control 3 motors using its 3 control knobs (large knob for focus, smaller knobs for Iris/Zoom). Up to 3 motors can be assigned the same motor "class" (e.g. Focus), in which case the motors will mirror the exact same behavior, for 3D shooting.
Q- Does the system really support 3D?
A- Yes- Motors assigned the same "class" (e.g. Focus) will mirror each other's behavior. As internal positioning control is digital, there are no non-linearity issues.
Q- How many motors does the REV support?
A- The Receiver has 3 motor ports, but these ports can be expanded to support at least 6 motors (with y-cables or a breakout box, both available soon).
Q- Is the wireless legal and license-free in my country?
A- Yes- The REV used the world-wide license-free 2.4GHz ISM band.
Q- Some of my SLR lenses are 'infinite' rotation, i.e. without hard end-stops. Won't this break the auto-calibration?
A- For these lenses you can manually calibrate, which is a very quick process.
Q- How quiet is the unit?
A- It is extremely quiet for slow/ medium focus moves, of the kind you would use in dramatic filming. The motor can also move extremely quickly when required, this will make slightly more noise. The unit can switch between different modes-- the "Smooth" mode will limit speed, and thereby limit noise.
Q- Some of my lenses rotate over 180 degrees, is there a limit to the rotation of the lens motor?
A- No, Like on all professional follow focus units there is no limit of rotation on the REV follow focus.
Q- Can I affix my own gear to the REV Digital Motor?
A- Yes, the Motor drive has a 4mm hardened stainless steel D shaft, to which you can mount your own gear.
Q- Can I drive a [hothead / track / etc] with the motors?
A- Within reason, yes. The motors will attempt to auto-calibrate to the track and rotational hard-stops. You will need to manually calibrate if there are not hard limits. Please Note: This will however invalidate your warranty.
Q- Are you using rc servos or stepper motors?
A- No, we are using a completely custom mechanism, using precision motors and precision encoders, the same setup as used in all pro focus motors.
